Susan Casey: The author of Kids Inventing! A Handbook for Young Inventors and Women Invent! Two Centuries of Discoveries That Have Shaped Our World. She is also a journalist and her articles and photographs have appeared in Fast Company, Family Circle, Americana, USAir, Women’s Sports, Soap Opera Digest, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Inventors Digest,Electrical Contractor and many other publications.

Since the publication of Women Invent! and Kids Inventing!, she has done many presentations about her books at venues including the Houston Forum, the Montana Educator’s Conference, the UCLA Women’s Leadership Conference, Edufest, the Los Angeles Public Library, the Charlotte S. Huck Children’s Literature Festival, the City of Los Angeles’ Feria del Libro, the Orange County Children’s Book Festival, Cal Day at UC Berkeley, Confratute, the Conference of the Montana Association of Gifted and Talented Education, and at conventions of the California School Librarians, the California Reading Association and the California Teachers of English, and at many community organization meetings.

Description of programs:
• Kids Inventing:
An interactive program about kid inventors and how to become one.

• America's Women Inventors:
An interactive program on the accomplishments of women inventors.

• Women of the American Revolution:
An interactive program on the role of women as spies, soldiers, saboteurs, writers and rescuers during the War of Independence.

• Non-Fiction Writing is an Adventure:
Writing non-fiction can open up the world to writers of any age. This session includes tips on generating ideas for stories, ways to conduct interviews, verify facts, do research, use techniques to enliven stories and how writers of any age can publish or sell their work.

Workshops:
• Inventors' Workshop:
Students will see examples of inventions created by kids and sold nationwide, learn how to generate ideas for invention, do an hands-on prototype construction activity, learn about patents, trademarks and copyright. 

• Writing Non-Fiction Workshop:
Focus will be on wrting different forms of non-fiction from reports, to essays, to simple life stories.
